Amazon Prime Day
Amazon Prime Day is a campaign Amazon is running on 11th and 12th July, where they drop deals on anything from clothing to toothbrushes.
The deals, which are exclusively for Prime members, drop every 30 minutes on the retail site.
Let’s not deny it, everyone loves a good deal.
But, Amazon Prime Day is terrible for the environment.
Excessive packaging, waste created by unsold warehouse stock and carbon emissions caused by deliveries on Prime Day all encourage environmental destruction.
Focusing on waste, in 2020 and 2021, Amazon produced almost an estimated 600 million pounds of plastic waste and almost 72 million tons of carbon dioxide.
Furthermore, Amazon continues to partner with and fund fossil fuel giants such as BP, helping them drill oil more efficiently.
Prime Day is a natural result of a capitalist society, encouraging an alarming rate of ‘hyper-consumerism’.
You can’t help but feel that once again, big corporations are putting profits first, at the expense of our environment.
So, what can we do about it?
Stop investing in Amazon campaigns and adding to the environment-destroying, hyper-consumerist machine.
Instead, we’re calling on you to shop smart, small and local!
Ask yourself…
‘Could I live without that fancy new electric toothbrush’?
‘Could I find joy elsewhere, aside from purchasing that half-price blender?’
You are the consumer and you have the power. Say no to Prime Day!
